The familiar click of bocce balls is poised to become a year-round delight in North Auburn, much to the excitement of local enthusiasts like Darrell and Linda Graham. While Recreation Park’s existing courts have served the community well, the sport’s booming popularity has increasingly limited the opportunity for casual play.

Bocce’s appeal is far from a passing fad; it’s a sport steeped in history. Its modern form took shape in Italy but the Romans spread the game across their vast empire, and today it remains a beloved pastime worldwide, cherished for its blend of skill, strategy, and social fun.
Local players Eric and Summer Black have particularly enjoyed the social community the sport offers, all while honing their own skills and strategies. Like the Grahams, the couple has found it increasingly tough to secure playing time at Recreation Park. As Auburn’s only dedicated bocce courts, they’re constantly bustling, especially during Sunday league play. Players often voice a desire for more shade and better-maintained courts.
A significant upgrade is now on the horizon with the development of new bocce courts at Grace Park in North Auburn. This highly anticipated project promises to revolutionize the local bocce scene, offering a state-of-the-art experience for all.
“We are excited for the new bocce courts coming to North Auburn!” exclaimed Linda Graham. “I’ve been told they will be professionally designed, covered courts so we can play bocce all year round.”
The addition of covered courts means players will no longer be at the mercy of the weather, ensuring uninterrupted play and fostering a more vibrant, consistent bocce community.

Beyond casual games, the new Grace Park courts are set to become a vibrant hub for organized bocce activities. Summer Black highlighted the exciting potential for expanded programming. “I am looking forward to having hosted instructional play and competitive tournaments for all ages at Grace Park!” she stated. “This will create fantastic opportunities for new players to learn the game and for seasoned competitors to truly test their skills in a more professional setting.”
Both the Grahams and the Blacks wholeheartedly agree that these new courts will serve a purpose far beyond simple recreation. “This will be a wonderful way to build more community and bring people together to enjoy the outdoors in a fun way,” Linda added. Eric and Summer Black share this sentiment, also expressing their excitement for more frequent and varied league play options.
The new bocce courts at Grace Park represent a significant investment in Auburn’s recreational facilities, poised to enhance the quality of life and provide a welcoming space for community connection through the beloved game of bocce.
